Vitamins: Why Do I Need Them?

Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals are called micronutrients. Even though they are called “micro” nutrients, without them you couldn’t get all the energy out of carbohydrates and fats that you need, or transform the protein you eat into your own lean body mass.

Micronutrients have, of course, been in the food supply since the beginning of time. Unfortunately, today, our bodies are not receiving the micronutrients we need due to such reasons as poor soil conditions, and our poor eating habits.

It is well documented of the importance of vitamins and minerals for nutritional management of disease prevention. Research has shown that individuals who took a multi-vitamin supplement provided their bodies with 100% of the recommended daily allowance, which improved their overall health.

This is why you need micronutrients and how they work;

  • vitamins regulate the biochemical reactions in your body (they get your motor running),
  • minerals forms structures in your body (i.e.: calcium in bone, iron in blood, etc.),
  • antioxidants consume free radicals (those nasty things that damage your cells and cause infections),
  • and last but not least, phytochemicals which are plant compounds that protect your cells.

Micronutrients cannot be made by the body, which is why everyone should be taking charge of their health, by taking a multi-vitamin daily!
